Markos Statement
The fastest series eleven of all time?
While the GTS abbreviation in the history of the last models was due more to a clever marketing strategy than to better race track performance, the engineers at Porsche obviously had a huge say in the current GTS.
The 991.2 GTS was the fastest 911 ever at Hockenheim in 2017 with 1:08.0! Whether 911turbo (1:08.2), GT3 RS (1:08.5) or GT2 RS (1:08.4): ALL had to admit defeat in the auto-motor-sport Supertest! Even at the Hockenheimring, he shared the title of fastest production car with 7:24 ... with full everyday suitability until the new edition of the GT2 RS 2018. So I was accordingly curious to see how the new GTS would perform on our test track.
What immediately stands out positively when you get in: The sports bucket seats offer extremely good side support on the race track, with sufficient residual comfort in everyday life. Top! The engine also knows how to convince! The two turbos work so sensitively that you almost feel like in a car with a naturally aspirated engine and extremely high torque. The engine revs up willingly and catapults the GTS forwards. The PDK also works perfectly.
If the driving mode is turned by means of a control dial optimally positioned on the steering wheel, the PDK switches to performance mode without torque difference, which makes the car very stable on the rear axle when changing gears in a bend. The PASM sports suspension provides enormous traction. Together with the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus system, which slightly brakes the inner rear wheel when driving dynamically in corners, and the electronic rear axle transverse lock with fully variable torque distribution, the GTS literally screams for corners and has extremely good handling.
The PCCB, which comes from the 911 Turbo S, has yellow-painted 6-piston aluminium monobloc fixed callipers on the front axle and 4-piston aluminium monobloc fixed callipers on the rear axle. Like its big brother, it does an excellent job, can be perfectly dosed and shines with constant pedal pressure and unchanged braking power even at the end of the turns
CONCLUSION: The GTS is currently the most harmonious 911 for me. It is incredibly fast, offers perfect everyday practicality and feels more than comfortable on the race track. Considering the fact that the test car was not equipped with Semis but with Pirelli P Zero in the N1 mixture, the GTS is even faster than the pre-FL GT3 RS at the Pannoniaring and at least as fast as the stronger, but also much heavier turbo S. For me personally the best choice from Porsche if you are not necessarily looking for a hardcore tracktool like the current GT2 RS or GT3 RS... and at a much lower price!
