BMW's power dwarf for the brand fans who mourn the small compact sports cars. Except for the engine, all components come from M3 and M4 and were adapted for the M2 for pure driving pleasure. 370PS and DKG let the standard sprint be completed in 4.3 seconds and turn the brawny compact into a driving machine with enough "joy of driving".

Markos Statement
The BMW M2 F87 was eagerly awaited by many die-hard BMW fans. The current M3 and M4 are "too big" for them, the fleet consumption-optimising four-cylinder engines are gaining ground and a 2-series Active Tourer causes them physical agony anyway.
The M2, on the other hand, should finally be a BMW "of the old school" again, agile, compact, sporty. For many, the question also arises: "Is the M2 the better M4? This is exactly what we want to find out with our current hotlap candidate.
In terms of size, the M2 is roughly on a par with the M3 E46 and thus has good prerequisites as a compact sports car for fast lap times and sufficient "driving pleasure".
Front and rear axle, brakes, steering and the 7-gear-DKG come from its big brother M3/M4 and were specially adapted for the M2 to give it even more driving pleasure.
In contrast to the S55 bi-turbo engine, which provides 431 hp in M3 and M4, the 370 hp N55 engine in the M2 is equipped with a twin scroll turbocharger, also with six cylinders and three litres of displacement.
Interestingly, on the race track the difference is hardly noticeable. The engine revs up almost like a suction cup and already from 1,400 rpm the full torque of 465 Nm is applied to the rear axle.
Steering, brakes, traction and DKG have no problems even in M3 and M4 and also do an excellent job in M2. Due to the shorter wheelbase, the M2 drives itself a bit more nervously on the race track, tilting more than the M4.
On mountain roads this more agility but among friends of the cultivated drift can certainly provide a higher degree of lateral dynamics.
Unfortunately, BMW has not done its homework 100% when it comes to "///M & Trackday": There are no shifting lights, no oil temperature gauge or at least no rev counter with a variable red area that increases with operating temperature. There are also no M-keys that allow you to call up individually pre-configured setups at the touch of a button. But what has unfortunately already been adopted by M3 & M4 are the problems with the brakes: The stability of the discs is not what you know and are used to from BMW M models. At hard gear the brake discs are worn out after 10 laps, which doesn't affect the reference lap, but is unacceptable for a car designed as a tracktool.
CONCLUSION:
The fact that the M2 did not have to give in to the M4 on test day was ultimately also due to the non-standard Michelin Cup 2, but nevertheless the M2 is an absolutely successful compact package that can stand up to the M4 and cuts a good figure in everyday life. In contrast to the latter, it offers significantly fewer options in terms of equipment wishes, but this is exactly what gives the car its character and is the reason why purists will turn to it for exactly this reason. If BMW would also improve the brakes and give the M2 the usual ///M gimmicks, it would really be who it claims to be.
